Agenda
I. Implementer Updates
Leckbee reported that Innovative Interfaces is implementing version 2.0 with Relais International, and they have conducted their first tests involving the customer sites (Dartmouth and Brown). The tests were very successful. Leckbee asked about the NCIP-SC and NISO issuing a press release when this project is launched.
O’Brien reported that OCLC continues to move forward with Navigator and VDX. They are performing interoperability testing with Ex Libris Aleph.
Walsh added that Ed Davidson from OCLC had submitted updated Circ ILL Application Profiles. These have been posted at the NCIP website (http://www.ncip.info/documentation/application_profiles).
Gray reported that Polaris is testing version 1.0 with InReach from Innovative Interfaces. He said he may need some assistance from others who have implemented connections with InReach. Polaris also is working with the URSA team at SirsiDynix.
Stewart reported that Relais International is testing with Lehigh University. Lehigh developed their own implementation using the NCIP Toolkit from the eXtensible Catalog. Relais International has implemented with Voyager, TLC, and Horizon.
II. Progress review on NCIP 2.01 Revision
a. Status
Wetzel reported that the 2.01 revisions are done and the PDF simply needs to be posted.
III. Review past action items and priorities
a. Documentation
i. NCIP for Dummies (Getting Started with NCIP)
ii. Core Messages Explained
iii. RFP Writer’s Guide to Standards for Library Systems
The group decided that time should be set aside at the April meeting for working on these documents with a goal of having something that is close to being ready for publication.
b. On-line Projects
i. Implementer Registry
Wetzel reported (on behalf of Campbell) that the Implementer Registry is not complete with respect to those companies with known implementations. She asked that everyone with an implementation review the registry and add to or correct the information that is there.
ii. NCIP Implementers Forum
Barr reported that the NCIP Now forum has been locked down as a result of hackers. The site was an experiment and a proof-of-concept, but it received very little legitimate use. The group briefly discussed whether the site should be resurrected and re-launched with additional PR efforts, but no specific plans were made. Gray added that it tends to be difficult to get answers to NCIP questions regardless of the venue where they are asked.
c. Other
i. Social gathering at ALA Annual
The group agreed to proceed with plans to host a social gathering at ALA Annual in June in New Orleans. Tentatively, the time will be immediately after the exhibit hours on Sunday evening. Dicus will attempt to locate a suitable venue.
[Editor’s Note: Dicus has suggested either the Marriott - Convention Center (which has a wine bar and is across the street from the Convention Center) or the Hilton New Orleans Riverside (which is the ALA Headquarters hotel and has a lobby bar). We will decide on the location during the next call.]
IV. Discuss logistics for in-person meeting
a. Dates – April 20-21
b. Location
The April meeting will be held in Ottawa and hosted by Relais International. Stewart is finalizing the selection of a venue. Wetzel will post a poll to obtain a count of those who plan to attend. (An informal survey on this call suggested it might be 8-10 people.)
V. Review upcoming dates and events
a. Deadline for change requests: March 1, 2011
Change requests for discussion in April are due by March 1. Walsh already has a few, but most are clarifications and defect corrections. He will post a list of those he has already before the March 1 deadline.
b. Next monthly call: Thursday, March 17, 2011; 1pm Eastern
