NCIP Implementers Group Conference Call
Jan. 12, 2009
Present on the call:
Purpose
The purpose of this call was to discuss the process for selecting a new chairperson for the group since Zemon has decided to step down.
Discussion
Zemon opened the call by explaining that we need to select a new chairperson for the group. The group agreed that this decision qualified as a formal vote and would require a balloting period on the NCIP list. Prior to the call, Brown and Wanner had been nominated for the chairperson role, and Walsh asked each if she would make a brief statement to the group explaining why she would like to have this position, and each nominee provided an overview of their reasons. Bodfish asked each to elaborate on her goals and objectives should she be named chair. Both nominees answered his question. (Editorʼs note: Rather than attempt to summarize the nomineesʼ responses here, each nominee has provided a statement for inclusion in this record. Their statements appear in Appendix A at the end of this document.)
Walsh reviewed the process for this vote. He will publish these minutes, including the statements from the nominees, to the NCIP list. There will be a strict two week period for Implementers Group members to cast their votes. (Editorʼs note: Votes may be cast on list or by responding to the Maintenance Agency directly [[email protected]]. The voting period for Implementers Group members will be from Thursday, January 15 until Wednesday, January 28.) The Maintenance Agency will record each vote and announce the nominee receiving the most votes at the conclusion of the two week period.
Brown announced that Innovative is willing to host a spring in-person meeting at their offices sometime in the February/March timeframe. She agreed to post some available dates to the list so that the group could agree on a time and begin planning that meeting.
Walsh explained that NISO had agreed to host the NCIP list and that in the near future he will work with them to migrate the list from its current host (The Library Corporation) to NISO. A proof-of-concept list has proven to work successfully, but there is still an open question about whether a list archive will be available.
Walsh adjourned the call.
