Agenda
Updates from Implementers
Dicus indicated that Ex Libris is currently testing with Relais International with the hopes
of releasing to production in the next few months. This implementation is based on
Version 1.
Kotecha and Dushyant provided an overview of RapidRadioʼs NCIP implementation.
They have implemented against Version 2 and their system is focused on RFID
hardware and middleware. They collaborate with six ILS vendors in India and the
surrounding countries. They have implemented Lookup Item, Lookup Agency, Lookup
User, Check In Item, Check Out Item, Undo Check Out Item, and Renew Item. They
have plans to implement Recall Item and Cancel Recall Item. They are trying to obtain
certification from SirsiDynix. Gray asked what it means to be certified by SirsiDynix.
Wanner said that this shows that an initiator has tested with various SirsiDynix ILS
platforms.
Kotecha asked where RapidRadio can add value to the NCIP-IG. Walsh indicated that
their real-world experience as implementers would be valuable, and Wanner added that
their perspectives on the challenges associated with internationalization are important.
OʼBrien said that the group welcomes their diversity and fresh perspectives.
Kotecha suggested that the NCIP-IG should be more proactive in branding NCIP and
working to eliminate the perceived barriers to entry. He identified a need for more education around how to implement as well as a need to do more to encourage
implementation.
The group agreed to add RapidRadio to the NCIP-IG list serve.
Standards Updates
Wanner reported that recent email exchanges with a European consultant suggest that,
in Europe, the fact that NCIP is a NISO standard (and not an ISO standard) hinders
adoption. She indicated that she will add an agenda item to discuss this more fully at
the April meeting.
Outreach
Wanner reminded the group that we previously decided to hold a social event at ALA
Annual in Washington, D.C. The group indicated that the event should be held Sunday,
June 27, at 5:30 pm. Wetzel volunteered to recommend a few potential locations near
the exhibits hall. The group identified the following forums for promoting the event:
•NCIP General Interest List
•NCIP Website
•eXtensible Catalog Group
•LLAMA/RUSA STARS List
•NISO Member List
Wetzel suggested that we need a clear message and event details before sending out
any announcements. Wanner added that we should stress that this is not a sponsored
event; each attendee should expect to pay for his or her own food and drink. Iddings
suggested that we bill the event “Meet the Implementers.”
Spring Meeting
Wanner asked for an informal and non-binding headcount of those who may be
planning to attend the spring meeting in Syracuse. Campbell, OʼBrien, Iddings, Walsh,
Dicus, Stewart, Wanner, Gray, and Boettcher each indicated having plans to attend.
Jackson is hopeful that she will be able to attend. The meeting will be held at The
Craftsman Inn. It is a hotel and conference center about 20-30 minutes from the
Syracuse airport. The program is planned for 2 1/2 days, concluding around noon on
Thursday, April 29. Gray reviewed an email he had previously sent to the NCIP-IG list
with some logistical information, and he offered to help coordinate transportation for any
who might need it.
Boettcher indicated that 3M has plans to develop SIP 3.0 and invited any with an
interest in helping with that effort to plan to stay and discuss Thursday afternoon after
the formal meeting concludes.Wanner reviewed the proposed agenda for the spring meeting. OʼBrien suggested that
some discussion of SIP 3.0 should be part of the agenda. Wanner said it could be
discussed during the Implementers Updates. Jensen added that it would help us to
know the details and the direction that 3M has planned.
OʼBrien indicated that we should consider time in the agenda for real-time editing and
review of the schema as we work through the various change requests that need to be
addressed at the meeting.
Next Call
The group agreed to hold the call on April 15, 2010, at 1:00 pm Eastern as scheduled.
The purpose of the call will be to review any last minute concerns prior to the meeting to
be held a few weeks after.
Adjournment
Wanner adjourned the call.
