Polaris – Polaris is continuing development with INNReach (v1.0) for customer in Denver, and they are working to finish testing with Relais International (v2.02).
BorrowDirect – BorrowDirect is just beginning to look into NCIP with Ex Libris; discussions are still in the early stages. Some version issues with Voyager may complicate implementation.
Relais International – Relais International is hoping to do testing with VTLS soon.
II. Status of ballot for 2.02
The NCIP 2.02 ballot is in front of the NISO general membership and ballot is open until June 27.
III. Informal gathering at ALA Annual, June 2012
The group approved the draft post submitted by Dicus (reproduced below):
Subject: [ncipinfo] An Invitation to the NCIP SC Social Event at ALA Annual-Anaheim
NCIP List Members: Pardon any duplicates due to cross-posting. Please spread the word to anyone interested in this standard.
Are you curious about NCIP, the NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol? Want to know how to save staff time using this standard?
You can join the NCIP Standing Committee members on Sunday, June 24th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the lobby bar of the Anaheim Marriott for an informal, casual "meet and greet" event where people can mingle, chat, and enjoy a refreshing beverage of their choice.
The Standing Committee invites anyone who is interested in circulation interoperability for resource sharing, self-service and interlibrary loan to join us. There will be a cash bar and everyone should plan to purchase their own beverages and appetizers.
The Marriott is located at 700 West Convention Way – next door to the Anaheim Convention Center. We hope to see you there!
IV. SIP update
Walsh reported on information from the Discovery to Delivery Topic Committee call held Monday, May 14, 2012.
The NISO Board has discussed the general issues associated with protected intellectual property and NISO standards, and it is planning to revise the Intellectual Property Agreement that is part of NISO membership and working group participation. The goal is to be more clear and up front regarding expectations for licensing and use of protected IP.
The D2D agreed to include as part of the charge to the SIP working group an item asking for a recommendation regarding the overlap between a NISO SIP and NCIP. The group will be asked to recommend whether self-service should be taken from NCIP and given to SIP, whether self-service should continue to be part of both standards, or whether self-service should remain with NCIP (thus leading to the question of the role for a NISO SIP). The D2D asked, too, that the NCIP SC answer the same questions and make the same recommendation. Walsh suggested that, if the NCIP SC and the SIP working group share sufficient common membership, then it might work to have the SIP group make a recommendation that is then endorsed by the NCIP SC.
V. Implementer’s Registry
Walsh reported on information from the Discovery to Delivery Topic Committee call held Monday, May 14, 2012. NISO does have the facilities to host a Drupal site, but they do not have the resources to provide technical support or on-going maintenance. Walsh will work with Gray, Sandstrum, and NISO staff to coordinate the logistics of moving the existing site to NISO facilities.
VI. Other items
Marsh asked how others are handling linking from an ILL using NCIP to a PAC. Johnny is searching ILL for an item that is available at his home location. He cannot place a request through ILL, so how does he link the item to the item in the home location? Gray indicated that URSA has an ability to recognize that the item is available at the home location and, instead of making the ILL request, it will make a request in the local ILS. URSA will then not continue to track the item as it otherwise would with ILL.
VII. Next meetings:
a. Monthly call – June 21, 2012 @ 1 pm Eastern time (U.S.)
Walsh asked if anyone had a conflict due to ALA, and there were at least 3 members present who would not be able to attend the June call as scheduled. Walsh agreed to discuss the issue with Dicus, and the two will make a decision about whether the call should be held as scheduled, rescheduled, or cancelled.
b. In-person meeting – Fall 2012 – tentatively Oct 9-10
Sandstrum continues to explore the logistics of hosting the fall meeting in Florida. OCLC (Columbus, OH) was another site suggested at the April meeting, but no one from OCLC was present on this call. The issue will be tabled until the next meeting.
