Susan Campbell - College Center for Library Automation (CCLA)

Mike Dicus - Ex Libris
Eric Leckbee - Innovative Interfaces
Rob Gray, John Barr - Polaris

Gail Wanner (Chair) - SirsiDynix
Thalia Dickson - The Library Corporation
Updates from Implementers
Leckbee reported that Innovative Interfaces continues to move forward with its NCIP
implementations in Pennsylvania and Michigan. Gray reported that Polaris has been working
with Auto-Graphics and EnvisionWare on implementations. Additionally, Polaris, Auto-Graphics,
SirsiDynix, and Innovative Interfaces are planning a conference call next week to discuss an
implementation with MeLCat, a Michigan state library project (http://michigan.gov/
libraryofmichigan and http://mel.org). Stewart reported that Relais is working on Version 2
implementations with Innovative Interfaces and VTLS. Kotecha reported that RapidRadio would
like to test with other systems. Anyone interested should send email to coordinate the testing.
Their implementation is Version 2.
Related Standards
Wanner asked if anyone had updates from any other standards efforts. No one had anything to
report.
ALA Social Event
The NCIP IG is planning to hold a social event at ALA Annual in June. The event is scheduled
for Sunday, June 27 from 5:30-7:00 pm in the lobby bar at the Renaissance Hotel in
Washington, D.C. Wanner reviewed an invitation she and Jackson had prepared. The group
approved the invitation. Walsh agreed to post the information on the NCIP website, and Wanner
volunteered to contact Cynthia Hodgson at NISO about publishing the information in NISOʼs
Newsline. Wanner also agreed to post the invitation to the LITA and the Rethinking Resource
Sharing list serves. She plans to ask John Bodfish to post to the ILSDD list, and she will send
the information to Brian Greene to share with the LLAMA-SASS group. Finally, Wanner agreed
to post the invitation to the NCIP-IG and the NCIP General Interest lists.
Fall Meeting
Discus reported that Ex Libris has agreed to host the fall meeting at their offices in Chicago
September 8-9, 2010. Their offices are approximately 10 minutes from OʼHare International Airport. Dicus will compile logistical information including some local hotels and post to the
group.
Implementer Registry
Campbell demonstrated a prototype for an Implementer Registry she has created.
Implementers may enter information about NCIP support in their systems, and it is saved in a
MySQL database. Others may then search the information in various ways. The prototype
available at http://ncip.dev3.webenabled.net, but it should be used only for testing at this point.
The site requires a login, and their is a generic “NCIP Test” username (without the quotes). The
password is “nciptest” (again, without the quotes). Campbell indicated that some of what she
would like to accomplish will require someone with more expertise with Drupal.
Ask NCIP Email and FAQ
At the Spring 2010 meeting, it was suggested that we create an email link on the NCIP website
where those working to implement could get support and assistance from other implementers.
Gray suggested that we might try creating an interactive forum instead. Walsh agreed that
would be a good idea since a broader group of people could respond to questions, but he noted
that it needs critical mass to be useful. Barr suggested using a Facebook group. Dhaval
suggested phpbb (http://www.phpbb.com/), and he volunteered to experiment with it. Barr
agreed to help him.
Review 2010 Goals
Wanner suggested that we defer discussion of the 2010 goals until the next call. She asked
group members to review the goals from the Spring meeting minutes prior to the call.
Review Action Items
Wanner reviewed a list of action items created at the Spring meeting. Walsh agreed to copy the
list to the NCIP section of the NISO website so that all can track their progress there.
Next Call
Wanner announced that the next call would be June 17, 2010, at 1 pm Eastern US.
