NCIP Conference Call
May 21, 2009
Present on the call
Mary Jackson, Ted Koppel - Auto-Graphics
Susan Campbell - CCLA
Rob Walsh - EnvisionWare (Maintenance Agency)
Lynne Branche Brown - Innovative Interfaces
Kevin Stewart - Relais International
Karen Wetzel - NISO
Gail Wanner - SirsiDynix (Chair)
Lorrie Butler, Jean Rafsnider - TLC
Agenda
- Update on website: Walsh provided an update on the NISO-hosted document
repository and collaborative workspace and the plan for a more content-central,
generally accessible site in a content management system (like Drupal). Butler asked
about getting credentials to access the site. Wetzel explained that there was an
internal delay at NISO in getting the Drupal sandbox set up for Walsh to explore.
- Update on Action Items:
- Walsh reported that the Self-Service workflow draft document was posted this
morning.
- Walsh read an email from Nada Vaughn as a representative of the RUSASTARS forum at ALA expressing her excitement for a follow up panel. Wanner
will post a note to the group asking for volunteers for the panel.
- Brown began reviewing the resource-sharing profiles, and she now thinks the
task may be more daunting than first imagined. When one gets into the core,
each appears to be written very differently. Wanner suggested that she,
Jackson, Campbell, and Brown have a separate conversation to compare notes
and progress since each had similar action items after the April meeting.
- Continuous Review vs. 5-year Periodic Review: Walsh reported that he had failed to
compile the information Wetzel provided after the last meeting. Wanner suggested
that the item be tabled until the next meeting.
- Hosting a Meet-And-Greet at ALA: Wanner suggested that we need to do some
planning if we want to host a social event at ALA. Brown said she thinks it would be a
good idea, especially since we plan to enforce the new membership rules. (Brown
asked how that process was going, and Wanner and Wetzel reported that a letter has
been drafted to those who have been inactive that needs to be sent.) Walsh asked if
the event should be formal and part of the ALA program or informal at some sort of a
local establishment. Wetzel said she felt it should be informal since it is fairly close to
ALA. Brown volunteered to see if Innovativeʼs suite might be available. Wanner
suggested that we should keep the event informal and not try to conduct any real
business. Jackson said an informal session might be more effective in getting people
to recommit to participation. Wetzel volunteered to do some research into a local restaurant or similar facility where the event might be held. The group remembered
that we had talked about holding it Sunday evening, perhaps 5:30 - 7. Wanner
expressed some concern about the availability of a truly local place - not much is near
the convention center in Chicago.
- Handout for NCIP vendors at ALA: Wanner suggested that we use the one-page ad we
edited at the April meeting. Wetzel volunteered to get the handouts printed and
available at the NISO booth. Wanner asked if we could have anything available at the
implementersʼ booths. Jackson asked about having a plaque for NCIP implementers.
Wetzel said she had raised that with (Todd) Carpenter, and NISO does not currently
have a budget for that sort of signage. She can, though, make enough copies of the
handout to distribute to the IG members. Further, Wetzel offered to make the ad copy
available as a public document on the NISO site, and Walsh said he would ensure a
link is published in an email to the NCIP general interest group.
- Fall meeting plans: Wanner asked how people felt about holding a fall meeting. Brown
said that in-person meetings keep us moving forward. Walsh suggested that the
meetings are necessary, especially since it looks like we will adopt the continuous
maintenance process. Jackson added that it is a good way for people to demonstrate
their commitment to participating in accordance with the membership guidelines.
Relais and NISO have confirmed that space is available the week of September 22.
Wetzel suggested that we post a ballot on the NISO/NCIP site and allow the group to
vote on the host site.
- Additional topics: No additional topics were raised.
- Adjourn: Wanner adjourned the call.
